Walking School Bus

The smallest Trailblazers are the children at Fairhope East Elementary and Fairhope West Elementary schools who walk to school every day, rain or shine.  Under adult supervision, the backpack brigades make the half-mile trek starting from a designated meeting location.

Students enjoy outdoor recreation and socialization, learn safe walking skills, and arrive at school ready to focus.

Committed volunteers, parents, teachers and sponsors, as well as support from the City of Fairhope, make the Walking School Bus possible. It is the only daily walk to school program in Alabama.

We show off our sponsors!

The end of a happy half-mile trek

Organized walks to school benefit the entire community by reducing traffic congestion and air pollution associated with long car lines, and by teaching children lifelong healthy habits.
